Quality & Material Labels

Simons® Sportsystem are manufactured in three different materials – stainless steel, chrome steel, or aluminized steel. In some cases, sports exhaust systems for a specific car model are available in several different materials, but most often in just one version. It is primarily customer demand that determines which material(s) are used for each model.

SS Quality

Simons Sportsystem exhausts in SS Quality is primarily made of stainless steel (AISI 304/EN 1.4307/SS2333). To minimize the risk of cracks, inner parts are made from chrome steel (see TOP Quality), which is tougher than stainless steel. Flanges and certain mounting components are usually not made of stainless material. AISI 304 is technically an austenitic stainless steel. The steel is alloyed with approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Austenitic steel is normally non-magnetic but can become magnetic during processing like bending and welding. To ensure the best weldability, we use stainless steel with extra low carbon content. Stainless steel can discolor at high temperatures, which is normal and does not affect its durability.

It is fairly common for rust spots to appear on the stainless steel surfaces when the material becomes contaminated by other metals, such as spray from the road, also known as "fly rust." This does not significantly affect the durability, and it is often easy to polish off if needed. SS Quality items are not coated. The tailpipes are always made from polished stainless material. The expected lifespan of products in SS Quality is 10-20 years.

TOP Quality

Simons Sportsystem exhausts in TOP Quality is primarily made of chrome steel (AISI 409 / EN 1.4512). This is technically a ferritic stainless steel. The steel is alloyed with 10-12% chromium. To ensure the best weldability, the carbon content has been minimized, and titanium has been added. The result is a tough, weldable material with excellent rust protection.

Over time, chrome steel develops a reddish-brown corroded surface on areas that have become heated. This is normal, and unlike regular mild steel, corrosion progresses very slowly, resulting in long durability. The rear mufflers in the system kits are typically painted black. The tailpipes are always made from polished stainless steel material. The expected lifespan of products in TOP Quality is 10-15 years

ALU Quality

Simons Sportsystem exhausts in ALU Quality is made from aluminized steel. The material consists of mild steel coated with a layer of aluminum for corrosion protection. For Simons Sportsystem, extra thick steel plates are always used. The combination of strong material and an aluminized surface ensures good quality and long lifespan in a cost-effective manner.

The rear muffler in the system kit is typically painted black, and other parts are often painted silver over the weld seams and other exposed areas. The tailpipes are always made from polished stainless steel material. The expected lifespan of products in ALU Quality is 3-6 years, although there can be significant variations.
